ATI is conducting long-term groundwater monitoring for the U.S. Army Engineering Research and Development Center (ERDC) Waterways Experiment Station (WES) in Vicksburg, Mississippi. The ERDC WES is a research and development laboratory specializing in hydraulic research for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE).
The site, which is regulated under the Resource Conservation Recovery Act (RCRA), consists of six solid waste management units (SWMUs) and two areas of concern (AOCs). Groundwater monitoring has been conducted at ERDC WES since 1990, and ATI was tasked to continue the long-term monitoring starting in 2015. Site-wide sampling of eleven monitoring wells is conducted annually, and semiannual sampling is conducted in six wells at the Motor Pool AOC.
In addition, ATI developed a Statement of Basis to inform the general public of the proposed remedies for soil and groundwater at the Motor Pool AOC and fulfill the RCRA requirements for the site.
