The Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant (CHAAP) in Nebraska operated intermittently from 1942 to 1973 producing artillery shells, mines, bombs, and rockets during World War II and the Korean and Vietnam conflicts.  The installation has been inactivated and is in the process of being transferred back into the local county property tax rolls.

CHAAP is a Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) site on the National Priorities List.  This project helps to fill data gaps and determine remaining levels of soil and groundwater contamination in specific sites including: a sanitary landfill, demolition burning grounds, former pistol range, and building remnants.
