Overview of the project

ATI was the architect of record and security design consultant for the deconstruction/demolition of 16 buildings at the Maryland House of Correction in Jessup, MD for the Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services. The buildings impacted were constructed from 1868 thru 1960. The approximate gross square footage of all buildings that were demolished/ deconstructed was 530,000 SF and 98 percent of the demolished buildings were reused/recycled as a result of this project.

The entire project was surveyed (topographic, utility, and building surveys) and ATI developed a full set of scaled measured drawings showing existing conditions of all of the building elements so that an accurate schedule and quantities of materials, sizes, depth, etc. could be included in the construction documents. In addition, photographs of all notable items were included in the drawing set for ease of reference.

Since the project was under a secured perimeter, ATI designed a new security fence, detection system, and CCTV surveillance system for the construction area, featuring zones that can be turned on and off depending on the construction sequence/activity.
