Overview of the project
ATI performed Military Munitions Response Program (MMRP) services at the former Blue Mountain Training Area, now known as the Blue Mountain Recreation Area. MMRP Services included a full munitions and explosives of concern (MEC) and munitions constituent (MC) characterization for the former target riser structure. ATI also conducted munitions destruction and a soil removal operation at a former backstop berm, involving removal of hazardous levels of lead in soil.

This was a complex removal action, which included the use of heavy equipment to cut, tear, and break concrete and redistribute soil. The removal action took place in a highly visible public recreation area with a significant stakeholder group, including multiple government entities and representatives. Minimization of damage to area access routes and construction areas was mandatory despite significant tree growth surrounding the target structure and backstop berm.
