Overview of the project
ATI was contracted as the prime general contractor and architect of record by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers to renovate several secured locations to meet Secure Area requirements. Work included but was not limited to the following: repairing or replacing carpet, flooring and/or wall base, the ceiling grid, and acoustical tile in areas of disturbance; reconfiguring or adding ventilation ductwork; installing HVAC VAV’s or ATU’s and connection to existing hydronic loops; and demolition of all recessed conduits and receptacles inside the Secure Perimeter wall, replacing them with surface-mounted electrical and communications conduits and devices.
Result / Impact
Challenges to the project included the required use of cleared escorts for staff to access the basement level; the need for stringent safety and health precautions related to the COVID-19 Pandemic; and the development of a detailed schedule to manage a five-part phasing of the work to allow the client continued use of the basement during renovation activities. Despite these significant challenges, project was completed ahead of schedule and to the complete satisfaction of the client.
Client Quote
“Contractor has been very good at coordinating with the customer (USASOC) and ensuring they are abreast of any changes to the schedule or work as the project has progressed as well as meeting the needs of the customer to the greatest extent possible”
- Contracting Officer, USACE Wilmington
